The Salvation Army Roanoke Celebrates “Christmas in July” with Salem Red Sox and Over 5,00
Salem, VA – July 2025 — The Salvation Army Roanoke hit a home run with their annual Christmas in July celebration, joining more than 5,000 enthusiastic baseball fans at the Salem Memorial Ballpark for a night of fun, community, and classic American spirit.
Staff and board members rang the iconic Red Kettles loud and proud, spreading holiday cheer under the summer sun while cheering on the beloved Salem Red Sox. The festive evening brought together two community staples in a joyful celebration of partnership, purpose, and peanuts!
A special highlight of the night was Lieutenant Antonio taking the mound for the ceremonial first pitch — a moment met with cheers and applause from the stands. Fans were also treated to a visit from Sally the Shield, who teamed up with the ever-popular Mugsy to greet fans, snap photos, and share plenty of smiles with the youngest baseball lovers.
And what would a summer ballgame be without some good ol’ fashioned stadium food? From hot dogs to popcorn, the flavors of the evening added to the unforgettable experience.
“We love our Salem Red Sox and are so grateful for our continued partnership with them,” said a representative from The Salvation Army Roanoke. “Events like this allow us to connect with our community in fun, meaningful ways — and remind everyone that the spirit of giving lasts all year long.”
