The Salvation Army Welcomes New Officers to Serve Roanoke
Roanoke, VA – The Salvation Army of Roanoke is proud to welcome Captains Antonio and Shawnte Hodges as the new Corps Officers, along with their vibrant and faith-filled family. Together, they bring a deep love for ministry, a passion for people, and a joyful spirit to their new home in the Roanoke Valley.
Meet Captains Antonio and Shawnte Hodges
Captain Antonio Hodges was born into The Salvation Army and felt a calling to ministry at a young age. Raised in Portsmouth, Virginia, his faith journey was shaped by years of service, summer camps, mission trips, and leadership opportunities. Prior to becoming a full-time officer, Antonio built a successful career in the food service industry, opening restaurants and training employees—skills he now brings into his ministry with energy and excellence.
In 2021, Antonio and his high school sweetheart, Shawnte, answered God’s call together and were commissioned as Salvation Army officers. Whether he’s leading worship, playing brass instruments, cooking up a storm, or grilling in the backyard, Captain Antonio brings a hands-on, joyful presence to everything he does. He’s excited to build meaningful relationships in Roanoke and witness all that God has planned for this next chapter.
Captain Shawnte Hodges also hails from Portsmouth and found her spiritual home in The Salvation Army at the age of 12. With degrees in Applied Behavioral Science, Psychology, and Practical Ministries, she brings a wealth of knowledge, compassion, and experience to her leadership. Before entering full-time ministry, she worked as a Behavioral Specialist, empowering young people to believe in their potential.
Commissioned alongside her husband in 2021, Shawnte is passionate about ministry both inside and outside the church walls—through listening, loving, leading, and even laughing. She thrives on family time, reading, baking, and (occasionally) dancing in the kitchen. Her heart is full of expectation for the impact God will make in and through their family in the Roanoke community.
