The Salvation Army Roanoke Corps is a welcoming place of love and acceptance. We communicate the truth of Jesus Christ
in a relevant, active, and family-oriented way to develop leaders who are spiritually mature and heavily involved in our local community.
The Salvation Army operates a Corps (church) and community center in Southeast Roanoke. Located in the former Belmont elementary school, the building has administrative offices, classrooms, gym, a full-service kitchen and a cafeteria. Seven days a week, activities occur in the center, including worship services and programs in the chapel, youth character-building programs, adult educational classes, a community art group, and “Seniors with Spirit” (Seniors Program), depending on the time of year. The large gym is used for Salvation Army programs and rentals.
Across from this building, you will find the Salvation Army’s community garden, where neighbors lovingly tend to their vegetable gardens.
The Pathway of Hope initiative, which seeks to break the cycle of inter-generational poverty, is housed in this building, as is crisis case management services and seasonal programs like Angel Tree.
The Turning Point is the area’s only secure center for survivors of intimate partner violence, sexual exploitation, and human trafficking in the Roanoke Valley. Its location is undisclosed, and is a national award-winning program that practices trauma-informed care for clients and their children. Due to the nature of this program, there is a separate volunteer training around the issues of domestic violence.

The Family Thrift store on Williamson Road is the donation processing center and retail store for the Roanoke Valley. Proceeds from the store fund local programs. It is also a place for the community to gather, shop, and build friendships with caring and supportive thrift store staff.
